Killer Mermaid (Nympho) Movie Review SSMR

In this low-budget horror, a group of rich holiday-makers get in the way of a (Title). I have no idea why this movie has the alternative names of 'Nympho' and 'Killer Mermaids', we never get to see the mermaid in coitus and there is only one of them, but there sure is a lot of sexiness and killing going on.

This is a film for all true horror fans, who will recognise the tropes and appreciate what is done with them in this film. Beautiful to look at, there is some real talent behind the camera. The individuals that are 'in-front' are quite accomplished too. Milan Todorovic may not be a name to remember, but it sure is one to respect.

The modest CGI-budget is well used and adds quality to the film instead of show its cheapness. Its somewhat cliched story and scripting by Marko Backovic  and Barry Keating is truly gripping, held up in the first half by the always luxurious presence of Natalie Burn / Natalia Guslistaya.

It's common for a low-budget horror to seem like it knows it is not to be taken seriously. Somehow, maybe with the steady inclusion of dramatic wide-shots, the production is presented in a way that does not seem tongue-in-cheek or self-aware - which is refreshing.

One criticism, which is decidedly unfair, is that the score is too generic and sounds 'stock'. If someone got paid to create it from scratch, they shouldn't have. It is perfectly functional, but to a fault.

Watch this ASAP for an easy but entertaining ride.
